Attend college. Check. Graduate from college. Check. Get a job. Check. Get a ring. Check. Have a lavish wedding. Check. Get pregnant. Check. Buy a house. Check. Stop it already. We blame social media for this falsified guide to a "successful" life. Who made this checklist? Rip it up, trash it, burn it! To be honest, we ALL fall into the trap. It's easy to compare yourself to the next person. Susie went and got a master's degree, I should too. Judy is 26 and she's married, I should be too! Earth to our reader! Susie and Judy arent you. You aren't Susie and Judy. Sure, there are things about their life to admire and are impressive. The same can be said about every single one of us. We all have our triumphs, we all have our tragedies. Yet it seems we're more boastful about our triumphs and less transparent about our tragedies. Death to keeping up with the Joneses! Why? Why do we [the human race] want to keep up with the Joneses so bad? What if I told you....... the Joneses aren't real. Social media allows us to falsely portray perfect lifestyles. Nothing is perfect. We fabricate appearances to seem like we have it all, but we're people, & people are imperfect. Again, the Joneses aren't real. The last few years, engagements and weddings have become a huge "trend". Maybe it's always been this way, but social media has magnified the significance of "Forever". It's almost an obsession for some. Not because we want to live right under God and society, but because we'd rather flaunt that huge rock & throw a lavish wedding. Which, let's be real, most ladies are not gonna get the Kim K rock they obsess about. The average spent on an engagement ring is about 5k. That 5k will only get you a 1 carat center diamond. Most ladies obsess over the 2-3 (and bigger) carat rings... so imagine THAT price. Size is not everything. [Be sure to learn about the 4 C's when shopping around.] Also remember, the engagement ring is the gateway for the marriage. You'll have to put in work, compromise, sacrifice, etc. It's not all glitz and glam. So we rush into an engagement, a wedding, buy the dream house, get pregnant (so we can post about the gender reveal party and baby shower). It's like we live in a world where we are obsessing over this checklist. Checking every item just to?? What? Why? We are keeping up with the Joneses. What does this really lead to? A bad situation! It leads to: 50% divorce rate, financial hardship, and kids that are constantly being put off on others. All because we weren't really ready for the steps we took.
So instead of focusing on the likes, let's take our time doing each step when it's the right time for us. Even if it takes longer than we want it to take. Even if it means others are getting that engagement ring before us. Stop comparing yourself to the next girl or guy. Be happy at whatever step of your life you're at and enjoy the ride. Don't force or rush anything. Your time will come at the right time.
